Axel Hutter is Chair of Theoretical Philosophy; he also coordinates the Master program in Theoretical Philosophy. He researches and teaches in the field of modern theoretical philosophy: his systematic interests are in philosophy of language, epistemology, theory of rationality, and metaphysics, while his historical focus is on classical German philosophy and classical analytic philosophy. His research is devoted to constructing a narrative ontology, which conceives of the relationship between meaning (language) and being (world) in a new way, in that it attributes a systematic priority to meaning over being.
I am currently undertaking the following research and book projects:
An advanced seminar (Oberseminar) is regularly offered which deals with central concepts and questions of theoretical philosophy. Usually, the seminar is based on a text of classical German philosophy or classical analytic philosophy.
Prof. Hutter's current courses can be found on LSF.
If you would like to write a thesis (BA or MA) under Prof. Hutter's supervision, please contact him by e-mail, including a few sentences outlining your planned topic, in order to make an appointment.
Axel Hutter is co-editor of the "Collegium Metaphysicum" series, published by Mohr Siebeck (Tübingen), and the "Praktische Philosophie" series, published by Alber (Freiburg).
